Somerly Primary Schools' Community Pantry has been open for almost a year!
YouthCARE Chaplain Marilize at the primary school set up the pantry late last year.
"I heard about a community pantry that was set up in the Wanneroo area and thought that a Community Pantry might be the perfect way to help our parents in need and also get parents that can donate food, involved. In that way, it would be parents helping parents."
Marilize said that the pantry was a more discreet way for parents to access support rather than through accepting food hampers.
The pantry is topped up every week by generous families and staff in the school community and is also supported through local real estate agency Ray White Leading Edge Clarkson.
"Currently, we have non-perishable food items like cereal, pasta, pasta sauces, Baked beans, tinned spaghetti, UHT milk , biscuits, tinned fruits and fruit juices. We would definitely like to expand our Pantry so that we can cater for more needs," said Marilize.
It is amazing to see how caring the Somerly Primary School community is, both staff and parents included. It just goes to show that together we can achieve great things!"
